Dear Parents, This month in Language Arts, we will be working on visualizing and descriptive writing. When we visualize a story, we use the “picture words” to help us make a movie in our minds. Picture words are usually adjectives or action words that are used to describe a noun. We will be learning more about adjectives and how to use them effectively in personal writing tasks as well as, how to listen for adjectives in the stories we read which helps us visualize what we are reading about. In Math, we have been learning about different types of Polygons and how to sort and classify them by their various properties. Over the next few weeks we will continue our work in Geometry as we learn about 3D shapes. In Science, we have started a new unit on Simple Machines. We will be learning about the inclined plane, lever, pulley, wheel and axle, screw and wedge. Simple machines help to make life easier and do not require electricity. We will also be discussing the positive and negative effects of Simple Machines on society.
